Terrace Receives Copeland Evangelism Award

For the third time in as many years, Terrace has received the Copeland Evangelism Award from the Texas Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church.  The primary criteria for receiving the award is professions of faith and average worship attendance. During 2009, 60 persons made a profession of faith or renewed their baptism as vows at Terrace.

The Copeland Award is named after Bishop Kenneth Copeland, resident Bishop of the Houston Area from 1968-1973. Wherever Bishop Copeland preached, he energetically encouraged individuals to follow Jesus Christ.  He was known for expecting all of his congregations to grow and all of his preachers to preach for decision.

Terrace Garners Rising Star Award for 2008

On Wednesday, May 27th, 2009, Terrace was honored at the Christian Educators Fellowship Luncheon for receiving the Rising Star Award for our commitment to Christian Education as a result of a renewed commitment to children’s education.
Here are a few reasons why:

  • This year the Children’s Ministry team rewrote the focus, goals, and structure of the Sunday morning education for children and renamed Children’s Sunday School to J.O.Y. Zone (Jesus, Others and You). As the J.O.Y. Zone kids learn about Jesus they also learn to help others through mission outreach.
  • Technology, computers and a smart board were added to the curriculum, making the lesson more interactive and engaging for Terrace Kids.
  • In addition, a second Sunday School hour was added for children who attend at 11 a.m. and Chapel was restarted for BLS kids.
  • Each month over 300 kids receive Terrace Kids Times, which includes a Bible lesson, games and puzzles, and shows activities of Terrace kids.
  • Qualified nursery staff were hired and a wonderful dedicated group of volunteers help each Sunday.

The outcome has been a consistent growth in attendance.
