The ancient Mediterranean world used the terms “rich” and “poor” much differently than we do today.  Then, people who could guarantee their material future from their present wealth were “rich”; the “poor” could not, and lived from day to day. 

Only about 5 % of people were“rich,” and there was no middle class to speak of, only some people who were a little less poor than others.  By today’s standards, in most liberal democracies that are more or less “welfare states,” our poor are relatively well-off compared to the poor of the Third World.

On May 23, Men’s Breakfast looks carefully at Luke 18:18-30—Jesus’ Option for the Poor—and Ours.  We meet at 6:30 on Wednesday mornings.

Lunch will be provided and the retreat will culminate with a worship service.

Daniel’s Courage in Captivity

Children will go back in time to Babylon and discover firsthand the story of Daniel’s   courage – from his capture in Jerusalem to his miraculous rescue from a den of lions.  Kids and adults will come to realize that they can be courageous for God today.  They will leave the city of Babylon knowing God is with them when things change…when they need help…when they are afraid…when they’re lonely…and when they’re thankful.  The cost is $35 per child – max $70 per family (please make checks payable to Terrace UMC).  Registration starts April 1, 2012. Please mail completed registration form to Kathy Gilbert, 1203 Wirt Road, Houston, TX  77055.  Or email it to Kathy Gilbert.

Mission Possible offers  an opportunity for children and youth to help people in the community and city.  BLS and Terrace Church have joined together to bring this exciting program to the Spring Branch community. Last year they washed the windows of senior adults, boxed food for the homeless, and ministered to senior adults in a care facility. The cost is $30 per youth (please make checks payable to Terrace UMC). Each participant will receive a certificate for 15 service hours. Summer Drama at Terrace

Kindergarten – 4th Grade  & 5th – 8th Grade

August 5 – 17     Musical Sunday August 19

Come join Summer Drama at Terrace as we continue to explore our love of theatre and music.  It will be a two week,( Monday through Friday) drama camp that will meet in two different age level groups: entering Kindergarten to entering 4^th grade and entering 5^th grade to entering 8^th grade.  We will produce a fun musical on Sunday, August 19^th  .  The dates of Summer Drama at Terrace are August 6 – 17.  Kindergarten – 4^th grade will meet from 1 – 3 p.m. and 5^th – 8^th grade will meet from 4 – 6 p.m. in the Fellowship Center.  The cost is $50 per child (please make check payable to Terrace Chancel Choir).  For more information contact Lavena at slinhart@terraceumc.org.  Please mail completed registration form to Kathy Gilbert, 1203 Wirt Road, Houston, TX  77055.  Or email it to Kathy Gilbert.

Mission Possible June 18 – 19, 2012 – 9 a.m. until 2:30  (children entering 5th grade – youth entering 7th grade.)

The six-week study, When Christians Get it Wrong, will be taught on Thursdays by Dr. Jeff Morgan from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Fellowship Center.  The study will begin April 19, and continue through May 24.  Participants may attend one or all of the sessions.  A book is available at a cost of $12 and may be purchased at the class.

Terrace collects food for the pantry on the first Sunday of each month.  Nonperishable food can be placed in the baskets of the Gathering Areas at church.

Ministry opportunities include:
