Some
time later Paul said to Barnabas,
"Let us go back and visit the
brothers in all the towns
where we preached the word of the Lord and see how they are doing." -- Acts 15:36 |

Terrace has always embraced the Christian ideal that serving Jesus Christ means reaching out to one another in humility and love. We
sponsor a variety of church-based
programs that serve individuals and
families in the community. Through
both hands-on service and financial
assistance, Terrace supports a large
number of local and world wide organizations.
All of these efforts keep our members
actively involved in outreach and
missions.
Church-Based Outreach Members teach weekly Bible Study classes at Santa Maria Hostel, a residential drug rehabilitation center for women and at Turning Point Center, a homeless center for adults. Through the church's Van Ministry, residents from both of these facilities worship with our congregation every week. At Christmas time, the Adopt a Family program matches Sunday school classes with families at Housman and Treasure Forest Elementary Schools. Class members help make the Christmas wishes of these families come true by giving them toys, gifts, clothing, and household items. Terrace
offers Back to School Assistance
to families at several nearby elementary
schools. Our members donate prepackaged
school supplies and gift certificates
for shoes and clothing.
Terrace cares for its Home-Bound Members by delivering audio cassettes of Sunday worships services, delivering communion, taking them food and other needed items, and visiting regularly with them. We give them a smile, a hand, and a prayer.
The first Wednesday of the month, Terrace hosts Lunch Bunch for senior members and friends in the community. Participants gather in the morning for dominoes, cards, and other games and then share lunch and enjoy entertainment and speakers from the community. Vacation
Bible School allows children all
over the community to experience Bible-time
adventure and the love of Jesus through
Bible stories, crafts, music, games,
and fun. Volunteers conduct this summer
program over four consecutive evenings
for children two years old through
the fifth grade. Community
Support & World Mission Members of Terrace's United Methodist Women assemble hygiene and personal care kits for women at the Houston Area Women's Shelter, the Sager Brown Center for the United Methodist Committee on Relief, and for homeless individuals throughout Houston. Terrace is a contributing member of Memorial Assistance Ministries (MAM), which provides help and referrals by trained volunteer counselors to those facing eviction, and individuals who need help securing health care, clothes, and food. Assistance in finding job training or job opportunities is also available, as well as ESL classes. Turning Point Center, a homeless shelter for adults in the Spring Branch area, has benefited from ongoing support from Terrace. Every November, church members and the Youth host a Thanksgiving Dinner for 80+ residents of the Center. Through United Methodist Women, the church also has supported a linens drive and service projects at the Center. Other
programs supported by the Terrace
congregation, United Methodist Women
and the United Methodist Church worldwide
include: United Methodist Committee
on Relief, Christian Alliance
for Humanitarian Aid, Methodist
Children's Home, Medical Bridges,
UM Army, and Partners in
Mission. For more information, contact the Rev. Cathy Meyenberg, Associate Pastor, at 713-686-4328. The church office hours are Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. |
